Sivagiri is a panchayat town in Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Sivagiri has an average elevation of . It is located to the south of Erode, to the north-west of Karur, to the west of Namakkal and to the east of Tirupur. Sivagiri means 'Shiva's peak', which might have been derived from the hill lock with a Shiva temple located in the town. The economy of the town is dependent on the agriculture and textile industries. Sivagiri is well connected with Erode and Karur, the neighboring towns by local transports. The Bharathiyar University College of Arts and Science is located here, run by the Government of Tamil Nadu. There are many temples, including a temple dedicated to Sri Velayudha Swami and Sri Ponkaliamman temple.Another temple of Lord Shiva is located about 3 km from Sivagiri towards Arachalur in a place called Vilakkethy.The name of the god is Sri Vimalambika Samedha Vithgavinadheeswara.It is believed that a saint called Vilakkethi Sithar performed poojas in this temple by lighting deepam and hence the name Vilakkethi came for this Village.〔http://www.sivagiriponkaliamman.tnhrce.in〕 ==Demographics== India census, Sivagiri had a population of 22,285.
